In order to reach the goal set by the Paris agreements, renewable energy must be expanded at unprecedented speed. Tripling its capacity until 2030 is a huge challenge, but it is not unrealistic that it can be achieved.

The talk will look at the current status of renewable energy expansion and its recent developments. It also puts the spot on what other technologies are necessary beyond solar energy, and what challenges need to be solved for integrating all the fluctuating renewables into the grid. It takes both a global perspective as well as a closer look at the example of Germany.
